are they as aggressive as tilapia buttikoferi?
I am already noticing signs. The bigger ones chasing the tittle ones, but only a very short distance. At this size just a few inch long chase.
Once the small fish darts away, the fish chasing stops chasing. So far anyway.
These fish do well in crowded farm tanks, so not sure about an aquarium that is more of a community.
I am concerned about growth rate. I need a large pond/tank, but we are moving in two months.
So that will have to wait a few months.
I may have to break down and get one of those plastic totes in the aluminum cages or something.
I may not have time to build something in time. It depends on how fast they grow and they are growing pretty fast already.
I read they have fast growth rate for 240 days (8 months) then level out. So full grown in 8 months!
So I will have at least 20 lbs. of tilapia in 8 month!
My 75g is it for now.

So wait.. You are growing them for food?
No, just saying I will have an issue if I don't get a bigger tank.
I am going to stock my 1/3 acre pond with them next Spring, so they can clean it up.
My friend also has a pond we want to put them in.

I have kept both buttikoferi, and Mozambique(and many other Tilapines, and IMO Mozambique are about 75% less aggressive than butti's. The male Mozambique can get a bit nasty during a rut vying for dominance, and for females, but not nearly on the same psychotic scale as butti's.
Size of tank is usually the determining factor though.
Zillii are more similar to Mozambique, and at about 6", I found moving them to a 1,000 gal kiddy pool helped suppress the jousting.

Saratherodon linnelli (a Tilapine only found in tiny Lake Barumbi Mbo) below

!,000 gallons seems huge, but compared the volumes of water these fish live in normally, it is a puddle.
In winter, I used it to overwinter koi, and non-hardy water lilies in the basement in WI.

The Coptodon zillion spawned throughout the summer there.

For filtration I used a DIY fractionate (protein skimmer)
