Monoculus ;)
I can't get rid of these things.

I don't know what to do. It's my understanding they come from food left in the tank, but there is none!

I do a 50% water change weekly, and there is barely enough gravel to cover the bottom of the tank, and it's thoroughly vacuumed every water change. Not to mention still had this problem a month ago when I was still bare bottom.

I thought they were living in my FX5 so I cleaned it out, but they are still in the tank. I switched to my wet/dry for a week, and they are still here! They don't seem to hurt anything, but they sure aren't nice to look @

yes I have been told they are harmless to your fish. You can try addng some small fish like guppies-they eat them like crazy or just keep your tank really clean. They do come from leftover food and feces that accrue in the bottom of yor tank. I use small amount of gravel only.

im ac tually battling this now...so far im wining i think lol...contstant moving the grvael around and with a fine net i scoop em out every hour...so far so good =)

Also, check your waterline for flies. I've got them in my 30gal quarantine tank and it's pretty cool. The larvae flail madly to get around in the water column; they look like little lightning bolts.

Typically, it's just nematodes. Mine come and go. I've never tried to eradicate them, but I've been told several things will work. UV sterilizers, marine salt, micro scavengers and so forth. Getting rid of them seemed worse than just enjoying them. GL.

Nice avatar, kjfan1.

I also enjoy them. I'm putting together a thread of critters that have appeared in my tanks right now.

I had the same issue. I got rid of my piranha and added a Midas and 6 giant danio's. When the Midas moved the sand, the planaria floated all around and the giant danios ate them. I dont see many these days. I also added a uv sterilizer... I think this may have helped also.

I have the same problem in my tank. I feed my fish shrimp about every 2 to 3 days and I notice that that's when they multiply a lot. I switch to pellets and feed them every 4 days and notice a huge decrese in worms, still in the works and working. What I did and recommend is to feed your fish less and continue your water changes, aquarium salt works and UV light, but remember no matter how much you change your water if you over feed nothing will happen, so limit your feeding. If you don't have a bottom feeder I recommend get one so it can get in between rocks. GL and let me know.

I rarely see them, but I find them disgusting when I do. Luckily my African Arowana finds them delicious.
