Just finished up a stand and background on a 135. Best money saving tip I can offer is 99 cent stores sell aquarium sealant in the automotive / hardware section and it's marketed as gasket sealant. Same vinegar smelling stuff for $.99, a fraction of what a hardware store charges. It's available in clear, black and if you ever wanted a patriotic fourth of July theme tank red, white, and blue.:)

That's what I was just thinking. RTV and such is often labeled a silicone gasket sealer but it has a ton of additives to withstand chemicals and heat from a vehicle. I would only use it to seal things that don't touch my fish or water, maybe something on the stand, or filter for knots in a wood stand or canopy.

Just a follow-up it is labeled a RTV sealant 100% silicone. It says low volatile formula so maybe it doesn't have the additives. Either way it smells the exact same, applys and cures just like aquarium sealant and I've used decent amounts in two tanks and nothing has died or developed a 3rd eye. Maybe it doesn't have the additives and that's why it's in the 99 cent store.
