so i wanted to start a tank for some rams i want to know would a 30 gallon be ok for a pair and if i get a male and female would they just pair off over time can i add some neon tetra or something like that
And what type of filter can i get

The male and female will be fine in the tank. They can live in a 10gallon for life let alone a 30gallon. I'd get a male and female and add just about any peaceful fish you can fit in there. tetra would be fine

A 30g is definitely big enough for a pair of rams and some dithers.

I once got two males and two females from Ken, and they formed two pairs as soon as I dropped them in the tank (both spawned within a week). If possible, I'd suggest that you start with a small group, wait for a pair to form, and remove the rest.

They shouldn't be too bad in terms of bio-load, so an HOB filter should be enough for your 30g.

yep that would be fine. maybe a small species or group of small loaches or one small catfish as well

yeah i really like my pictus cats and i think they stay small enough for a 30g but not sure

i would go sand, i just like the look alot better than gravel but to each his own :)
