I just put four 1" RBPs in my tank and they are doing great. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions to make sure that they continue to do well in their new home.

Please give us more detail.

how many piranha
what tank size
what kind of piranha
how big are they
etc...

feed them at least 3 times a day to avoid casualties.
keep them temp lower than 82 so around 78-80.
water change 20-30% at least 3 times a day or if you can't then 50% once a week.

red bellies at 1-3" are very active and agressive so they tend to pick on each other at this size. especially if you have a weak link in the group. just keep a close eye on them everyday.

I just put (how many) four (how big) 1" (what kind) RBPs (aka Pygocentrus nattereri) in my tank....

I guess I didn't say that is a 30 gallon tank, and yes I know that this is too small for four grown piranhas and am going to be putting them in a larger tank when the time comes.

It is a planted tank (all plants have low light requirements and I've had the blinds drawn to keep the light out).

Piranha are unpredictable especially when they young 1-3"...let just hope you lucky because at this stage RBP are active aggressive.

30gallon are way to small for four, however you can "try" to keep them from nip and fighting by

keep temp low 76f
feed them 3-4 time a day with small portion
extra hiding space, other hand extra room to swim

It's very hard to out grow 4 piranha in 30gallon...if you don't get bigger tank by couple of month you will diffinately stunt the piranha.

for 4 piranha i would go with 125gallon, but this is just me.

let see some pictures.

id say 4 full grown would be fine in 90 or 100 gallon tank. . . .

over filter that tank!!!!! trust me it will make diffrence. they like clean water. DUH all fish do

I'll try to get some good pics up soon. I lost my memory card to my camera and the camera on my phone doesn't work so well. My roommate will be home later tonight and I'll use his camera.

I totally disagreed with that. you can not be serious about 90gallon with full grown RBP in there.

75gallon and 90gallon are almost the same. just that 90gallon are taller. What is full grown? 7" 8" 9" or even 10" you can't keep in there with out having any problem.

Even 4 in 100gallon are still pushing it.

I didn't want to start trouble over tank size. I will get a larger tank as soon as it is needed. I think that we all can agree that it's ok to keep four 1" fish in a 30 gallon tank. I totally agree that this is unacceptable for a full grown piranha, let along four and, like I said, I will get a larger tank when that time comes.

For right now, does anybody have any useful advise? I really appreciate anything that you guys have to offer. MoNkEy~BrAiN, good advise on temperature, feeding and decor; these are the kinds of things that I'm looking to hear.

PEVINE11, what do you consider over filtered? Right now I'm turning my tank over about 7 times per hour.

hardly, my cousin keeps 3 full grown reds in a 75g. they are 9-10" and he had them since they were 5-6". they are all in great shape good colors active and flawless body, no nips. it all depends on how much care you put into the fish. water change, scheduled feeding, good filtration, good aqua scaping for territories. i'd say 4 in a 90 gallon can work out just fine.

remember they are hardly as active when adults. they sit in one spot, or chill in the current until they see you coimg with a plate of shrimp.
