Hello, Yesterday I bought a baby silver arowana at my LFS for 14.99 (How could I say no to a deal). I am currently housing him in my 20 gallon tank until he is able to hold his own in my much larger tank. He is currently about 2 inches and the sales clerk at my lfs said he only eats crickets at that size but he ate some tetramin crisps and frozen shrimp cube today. I would like to know the OPTIMAL food and conditions i will need for this fish to grow healthy and soon become the monster fish that it should be. All tips are appreciated.

Thank You

Mine loves mysis, krill, dried bloodworms, flakes, and is starting to eat frozen blood worms, shrimp, and beef heart.

if you got him to take dried food, you're half way there. Keep pushing the dried (pellets) and then start mixing in other items such as small pieces of tilapia and cut up silversides, if and when he is big enough to take them. If not, let him grow into it. Keep pushing the dry. My silver eats everything: tilapia, freeze dried and frozen krill, silversides, pellets, earthworms, beef hearts and whatever else hits the water surface. Good luck with him.

Just in case you haven't heard this, arowana are jumpers. they will jump through holes smaller then you think they can fit through. Make sure your tank has a well sealed top.

Continue with the tetra crisps add variety of other foods, limit the crickets and stay away from live feeder fish. Once it is about 4" start feeding a quality pellet or food stick.

No tank mates until it is at least 5-6" and after that choose your tank mates wisely.

if your tank has a wide center brace be sure it is blocked on the sides...i have a top on my tank and it leaves a small gap between the top and the center brace...i lost an aro to jumping inbetween the top and brace...boold worms, shrimp and you could break up the mentioned food sticks to small pices to get it eatting that...add floating plants if you haven't as that will make it feel safer...gl they grow fast...
