I bet your relatives and friends think you are nuts for taking home all those shrimp tails.:D Non-fishkeepers just don't understand.
LOL, they're used to me already. I didn't even put out the cup this year, somone was standing there with a shrimp tail in their hand, asking, "Where's the cup?" I show up at friend's houses & they say" I have shrimp tails I've been keeping for you, in my freezer." I used to have turtles & for years after I got rid of them, folks were trying to give me their old fruits & veggies for them. :)

I live in Arkansas and there is a ton of creeks, rivers, and lakes around. I have found huge pieces of drift wood that have been in the water for a very long time. Also, being in Arkansas we have and endless supply of rocks. This part of the state grows them. I tell my kid go find some flat rocks for dad's tank. He comes home with more then I could ever use.

Get the non-electric timers that have divits you can push down for every 10 minutes and only time the timers to be on when you are home. I have my planted lighted from 8-10a and 6-10p.

i get my stuff as hand me downs. i make friends with fish people and when they upgrade they start throwing their old stuff(which is still nice) back to me. i'm getting a 55 with stand and lights, rena in-line heater and 2 fish(which i was told were worth over $100 dollars for free. the fish he's getting rid of pick on his more expensive fish. just got to meet and know the right people smetimes.

Thanks for the tips.. i should try em...
i see a lot of cheap stuff online.. but i ALWAYS go to the pet store to buy supplies..

i will definitely have to try a few. i print out petsmart online ads and go into the store and buy the items for the online price saving as much as half sometimes. emperor 400 for $39, visitherm stealth heaters 250 w $19 and the list goes on. hope this helps someone out like you guys have helped me save.:)
