tips for setting up a 120 gallon

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
For that tank size I think you would have to pick a smaller knifefish (such as a brown ghost). Black ghost knifefish get 50 cm, for which which the tank is not wide enough nor long enough (should be at least 300x75 cm footprint).

Hillstream loaches! You can have over 30 in that size tank.

If you decide to go with a big tank switch to a product like SeaChem Safe for water conditioner. Best bang for your buck, highly concentrated so a little goes a long ways.

Stands are easy to build. I built mine out of 2x4's and painted it black. For filtration i used a fx6 and 2 aquaclear 110's. I use seachem matrix for bio media. then used poly filter for water polishing. All 3 filters have pads for nitrates and ammonia removal. Now what i am about to say is by personal experience and may not work for everyone. I never cycle a tank. Each start up tank i use seachem stability and follow the directions on the bottle. As far as maintenance i use seachem prime for all my water changes. wanted to share my set up and input with ya and see if it helps any.
