Tips on getting my jds to spawn.

I have a blue gene male in the 6-7 inch range and my female is 2.5-3 inches . They seem to be getting ready but doesnt look like they are interested in each other . She has been clearing sand out from under my driftwood and slate rocks . I figured it would take time and more 80% cold water changes but wanted to see any tips you guys up here have .

try using warmer water... it's the change from cold to warm that people believe sparks the spawning, because it simulates a change of seasons... That's a pretty big size difference though, just be careful for aggression... I feel like the male might really hurt the female, or kill her...
 
Oddly for the size difference hes not really aggressive. When I first got him I had him with my female a smaller male and three 1-2.5" festaes. I thought he would've ate them all but he didnt they lived peacefully for a week then the younger male thought he had balls and had to be put in place. I ended up moving the festaes to a 40 breeder just to be safe.

I also made small caves that only the female can fit in just in case she needs to hide out

I put the temperature in my tank to about 78 - 80 Degrees, Then do a 25 - 30% water change. And I set the return on my Ehien
higher above the water, To kind of simulate rain. I have also used a teaser fish in a small 5 gl tank, Set next to the breeding aquarium.

I toke out my heater cause my bed room is so hot it keeps the tank around 78°-80°. I might try it how you said . Lower the water level a little so my will simulate rain . I was thinking about added a big convict as a dither . I tried the mirror but they could careless about it.

put the mirror on the inside and watch out i did a couple months ago i had a pair of larger jd's and he ripped it out my hand and took it to the other end of his tank.agression vary's
 
I cant the only mirror I can use is a.double sided mirror and has a metal flexing wire to hang it in the shower or stand it up
