aw but I love mine....

I would pay 50 to get him shipped.

What about the plants?? How would one go about shipping those? Same way overnight? What about that hydration gel that some bamboo plants are sold in? Anyone have an idea?

wow, that is gonna be quite the trek. I would say a large cooler with plenty of aeration. Also might want to take some of the tank water with you for the occasional water change as it will take you at least two days of driving.

Takes alot longer than 2 days to drive from NY to CA.

The plants are easy, don't waste money on shipping those. I'm assuming you are taking plane? Just dump the water completely out, put the plants in plastic bags. Get to the airport, once you get pass the the security check point you are allowed water again. At this point just go buy a bottle of water, and just fill the plastic bag with an inch of water then tie the bag up. From NY to CA is about 4-5 hours, the plants will be okay.

Plants can be shipped easy and cheap. Wrap the roots in damp paper towel, fill the bag with a tiny amount of water, slide it in a bubble mailer and ship first class. Some people say priority mail, but 1st class is totally fine. Ive done it multiple times. The gourami's can survive a little better because of their labyrinth organ. Bichirs are air breathers too right? So I would think they ship well also. Have you ever shipped anything alive before?

As long as you package it well and purge the fish for 2-3 days everything should be fine.

Forget shipping the plants, just bring the plants on the airplane with you.

Starve the fish for 48 hours before shipping them. Also remember to put prime or bag buddy in the bag when you ship them.

Nice you guys have helped me a lot, the gouramis and bichirs can breath air but I wouldn't trust putting the 3 in one box together I'm sure it would be too cramped and the bichir would kill them both for being all over him. I guess I will just return the opaline female and pearl and get them again over in Cali no biggie I was mostly worried about my bichir because he's more of a pet then a fish.

bag buddy/prime can be bought at a fish store I'm guessing?

Big box, each fish in its own bag. You can fit three fish in a box easily. Prime and Bag Buddy can be fine in any Pet's Mart or LFS. Remember you can either use Kordon BREATHABLE bags filled completely with water with as little air space as possible OR regular plastic bags filled with 2/3 pure oxygen and 1/3 water. Wrap each fish bag in newspaper. Take the box and cover all six sides with styroform and then put the bag in the box. Write live fish on the box, head out to Fedex and you're done.

Just use a styroform cooler ( still put the fish in a bag... ) place it in a box just alittle smaller an maybe some bunched up paper to keep it from wiggling. Also there is a super look post about shipping fish somewhere on MFK. Might be helpfull.

I would personaly just buy a new fish, but I can understand not wanting to do that.
