Tire Reef Off Florida Proves to Be a Disaster

I never seen that down there before.. intresting. Thats really sad - hopefully they smart enough to take out what tires they can.

oddball do u have a link for this, this would make a great current event id need for my environmental science 2 class, i searchedbut couldnt find it.
 
HUh, I was gpomg tp throw a bunch of tires in my reef tank also. Good thing I saw this thread. Who would have thought that tires would be bad for a reef. Well I guess engine blocks are out of the question too.

Shame it didnt work. Where does it say it was toxic i missed that bit, or someones making stuff up. It takes a long long time for the reef to develop, it prob was an ok idea, other than the fact that over time, they all came apart. They should have made 1 giant tire. Old train carriges might work. In the bahamas there are a hell of a lot of sunken ships and although they havent become mini reefs they've proven to be a good haven for many organisms, particularly reef sharks.

So Ash, that mean you dive? Have you heard of Toilet Bowl Reef? No joke! It is said to be a good place for lobstering. Never been there myself.
 
There is actually a tire reef right in the waters I fish. It does hold some life but not as much as the other artificial reefs over here.
