what is a good setup for a tire track eel...as far as tank size and such...im thinking about picking one up from work cause hes been there for a while and no one seems to be intrested but all the others sold months ago so ya im just wondering what would be a good tank for him...oh and any diet input other the ghost shrimp and blookd worms cause honestly i got those two going good with this guy...thanks all

depends on the size. when young they can easily be put in a 2ft tank. when fully grown, a 5ft would be nice. regular worms and mussels are good food too.

Hi, I want to know What are the maxe size or tiretrack eel and will it be ok if he is in a 75g for life (with tankmates)?

I would also like to know, what is the longest and shortest amongts these eels: tiretrack, fire, peacock.

Fire eels is the biggest. reaching around 42" full grown
Tire Tracks will get about 3ft full grown. They will eat just about anything that will fit in there mouth
Peacock eels will get about 12". The females will get that big. Males was get about 8" to 10". They are the more peaceful of the eels
Zig Zag eels will get 12" to
Smallest eel is a Yellow Tail. Max size is 8"

I have found that if you keep the bigger eels well feed they will not be as aggressive to smaller fish. They will not do well with more aggressive fish. A 75 gal tank will do them just fine. They will hid during most of the day and come out at night. MAKE SURE ALL HOLES ARE COVERED!!!!!! They are escape masters!!

agreed with most Xanatost says, except for the hiding during night. By always feeding them during daytime and feeding them at the surface, you will train them to become day active. Did that with my eels and it works. They are very active during day and "sleep" during night. Also the escape thing: ive read so many things about this but mine never ever tried to escape (as far as i know). Just make sure they are happy in the tank.

Agreed with Stiffmeister on feeding. When I had a fire eel he would swim to the top and be hand fed. This led to him swimming openly about the tank during daylight. Unfortunately at about the 8 inch mark he just disappeared. Never saw him again. Keep all holes blocked.

Follow up Question. Just want to know if there are eels that can live at a 75g tank for life? Can tiretrack eels live at a 75g with my BGk and senegal bichir when all of them they reach adulthood?

peacock eels
can live in a 75 for life.

peacock eels can live in a 40 gallon but if you need a small eel a zig zag eel can live in a 10 for a long time
