tire track or fire eel?

Other then mixing 2 types of eels is potential for disaster. They usually do fine as juviniles but once they mature it's on like donkey kong. my 3 fire eels are bickering with eachother at the moment and I hope they figure out a workable solution. But I am prepared to seperate if need be. so if you do try mixing make sure you can seperate them if you have too.
Other then the fact a TT is more likely to stay within the size of the tank either species is capable of outgrowing it, which you know. My TT is now no less friendly then my fire's are. He's handfed earthworms but also eats feeder guppies, where my fire eels eat worms, and more worms, and now the occasional flake... weird fish.
as long as your prepared to accomidate their special needs either eel imo is equally attractive/personable. It's just as the owner how much attention you put into it. and the fishe's individual personality.
Mine are deffinately my favorite fish now. It also seems liek the TT's grow alot faster then the fires do on average. then taper off at a younger age then the fires do. I haven't had my TT long enough yet to really say for sure. BUt I'm sure he'll outgrow my fires as he's about 6" and they're in the 12" range. But in the long run I'm betting my fires will get larger.

do not get both a fire eel and a TT... i got a 4in tt and a 7in fire eel at the same time.. they got along great for the first 8 months or so.. my tt quickly surpassed the fire eel in size and was about 13in when it killed my fire eel that was about 10in.. it litereally chased my fire eel around the tank relentlessly for about 3 days until my fire eel finally jumped out of the tank in the night and i found it dead on my floor the next morning..
personally i found the fire eel to be far more sensitive to water conditions.. mine got a fungal infection all over its head 2 different times and went weeks without eating while it was sick.. my tt never got sick or any infections and it was kept in the same tank as the fire eel... i guess i just had bad luck with my fire eel, since it seems that everyone else has such healthy and thriving fire eels

Actually, tire-tracks can get just as big as fire eels, if not bigger. The species that stays small is the zig-zag eel.
I've been trying to decide this myself, I was actually set on getting both but now that I've read a few accounts on this thread I'm starting to think this might not be the smartest idea. I'd love an eel that comes out a bit more rather than hide all day long, so I'm guessing that would be the fire eel? But I've heard that they're so picky about food, so I'm not sure...
