Hello.
Saw a tiretrack the other day that looked fine, around 20cm long.

From what i read it goes well with most fishes but want to check just incase there could be trouble with any fish i have ?
Have 6 silversharks 10-15cm
9 clown loaches 4cm-10cm
1 black ghost ~11cm
1 synodontis eupterus ~20cm.
1 small scalare

Also read they like to escape, do the crawl out or jump ?
At the moment i have no cover at all but are going to build a frame to mount the lights on, will go around the aquarium and be 9cm tall, would that be enough to stop a tiretrack from escaping ?

How long can a tiretrack last outside the aquarium aslong as the cat doesnt find it ?

The bottom material is round gravel without any sharp edges roughly 2-5mm, would that doo with a tiretrack ?

Going to put up a small tank to breed lots of poecilia reticulata as live food for the fishes, would a tiretrack like those or are they to small when newly born ?

Regards

i bout on about 2 weeks ago and it likes to escape alot.the fist day i got it it found home in my emperor 400 so i seeled up the top with duck tape were i thought it was getting out of next day back in the filter when i went to get him out of the filter he jumped out hit the floor and escaped into a crack under the basebord that leads to the crawlspace so he is a gonner. just wanted to tell my experience so you would know to seal that tank up tight or he will be gone good luck they are awsome fish

they need a larger tank they can get over 3 feet long so a 125 might be the minimum tank size but a 180 would be better
they are preditory so it would eat alot of baby fish they love worms to and shrimps live ghost shrimp make a nice treat for them

they can and will eascape if there not covered they will search all night looking for a place to get out so make sure there are no holes that are even close to the size of the eel they can fit into pretty small places and they can't breath air like some fish so they proubly won't last more then an hour if you have carpit on your floors then they will dry up much faster

Mine is now over 30", he jumped out once just as I left country on holiday, got caught in fishing hooks that happened to be on the floor. Fine now

My tank is a tad small but the tiretrack would most likely be better of in my 540Liter tank than the smaller tanks most people have and its not impossible i can find a new home for it if it grows to large for my tank.

Plan on breeding alot of them but how good are they when it comes to vitamin's ?

they love worms
Well i live in the land of the vikings so worms are bit difficult to find most of the year but could always take a look if i can breed them myself.

The frame im going to build for the lights is off wood so would be easy to cover it with mosquito net and also cover all openings around hoses with net.

Beautiful animal! I love to see these guys at adult size, they are so awesome.

I have a few juvies. I agree with seal the lid. Also give them a cave, 1" pvc pipe works well when they are small. IMO these fish require more oxygen in the water than others. "lots of surface agitation". Frozen bloodworms are a favorite food when under a foot long then market shrimp. Fun fish. GOOD LUCK

Love the TT eels, I would get one if you can. Looks to be some good info posted in this thread. As far as getting out of the tank they basically crawl, not jump. I transfered my 15" to another tank tonight, had him in a 5 gallon bucket and he was coming up out of the water 5-6".

man thats a nice eel how old is it

they just need a place to hide under and there good a tube works just fine

live fish has some nutrition but not alot they would need other foods try as many differnt things as you can

when young try
glass worms
blood worms
brine shrimp
market shrimp
mysis shrimp
fish fry when the eel eaches around a foot they will start to eat other fish

when older try
night crawlers
market shrimp
larger fish
crayfish
blood worms still
fish chunks or strips if your lucky alot of them don't like frozen fish

also worth mentioning is that these eels and the fire while there not true eels really can be hand feed and will come up to greet there owner most people have succses by scareing the fish as little as possible and little by little placeing more of there hand in the tank my old fire eel would eat blood worms out of my hand after only a week very cool fish just a little big
