I've been looking around for a new heater, and they are just so damn cheap that I dont mind paying a few extra $ for a good one.
What I want to know is, are titanium heaters good in your opinion?
I see alot of people swear by marineland stealth heaters, but I want to get some info before i drop any cash.
I have heard that Won brothers:( work for a lil while, then their controller breaks. I'm against getting a Won brothers, I'm looking at others in the 300 watt range. some have digital controllers, which I like. heres a link to the products im looking @ http://www.fishtanksdirect.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=21
Any stories, suggestions, or useful information will be greatly appreciated.

I don't know how to vote on this one. I HAVE mostly conventional heaters at the moment but I'm switching over to in line heaters on ALL the tanks as funds allow in order to get them out of the tank for both safety and estetics.

The most reliable heaters I have used is Catalina Titanium heaters. I've had a few go tats up on me, but keep your reciept because they have a 1 year warranty on them. Won bros. are crap. Had one of those and it crapped out in a week. Tried something called an Aqua Euro by Hamilton, both heaters kept popping my breakers after a day. Have not tried the stealths but they have good reviews too. Heaters are one thing the aquarium industry has never had a good product in. Even the expensive ones are disposable. I'd pay good money for a nice reliable/accurate heater that I know will last more than a year or 2.

I swear by the titanium heaters with Ranco digital controllers sold by www.jehmco.com. They call the controllers ETCI, but it's a Ranco. These things were originally made to control the temp. on commercial walk-in coolers. They handle aquarium heaters with no problem for many years. They are not cheap, around $100 or more depending on the heater or heaters you get with it, but it's cheap compared to the hundreds or even thousands of dollars worth of fish one may have. I have a couple of Stealths that are on small tanks, they are also reliable.

If you are doing FW, the titanium heaters are great, but I'll still take my jagers over anything else.

All I can say is "I use stealths". Never used titanium so probably no help to this thread.
I'll also say that Stealths have lifetimes warranties. I found out first hand on that.
2 year old unit bit the dust, one phone call, and a new unit on my doorstep three days later, basically "no questions asked".
As far as I'm concerned, "buy it once" and that's it.

I've had 3 brands of Ti heaters fail on me, including 3 Won Bros within a year. I voted for the stealth which I've had no problems with. The only complaint is that there is no "on" indicator. ;)

I like the titanium heaters. My oscar cannot break it, it is the only heater I have ever had that I truely feel safe having in my tank. Not all my heaters are titanium but hopefully they all will be eventually.

I think Stealths are "O" proof as well.
Mine do (sort of) have an "on" indicator.
Of course they run run off of a home made controller based on an HVAC thermostat.
They are turned all the way up, and switch on and off via a call for heat from the wall stat. with remote sensor in the tank.
