What should I look for?

The size is around 4 to 6 inches. It is labeled as Red Tail Gold. What quality and signs should I be looking for? I am looking for a nice gold edges and maybe a not very gold shade on the scales, but I think this quality shows at a later age. I wanted to get the best for the price. I know some are glorified by some kind of food enhancer, so i wanted to avoid that kind. Is there something on the fins that I need to know? What do you think about the one on the picture shown?

number 1.... get a pic which isnt so... "enhanced"....

if its 4 inches there is NO WAY to tell for sure what breed it is.
At 6 inches it should have no horseshoe markings on its scales. Dorsal should be brown while tail, anal and pects should be red. And they tend to have a darker top than greens or lower class breeds of asians.

at this size the best thing to look for is, largefins, long straight barbels, eaqual fins on both sides. look at the jaw of the aro and make sure that the bottom jaw dosent over lap the top, they call this defect PLj.

really its all to do with fins and body shape as there isnt that much to look for at this small size.
check the certificate to make sure it is what its ment to be and then get the shop to scan the fish to make sure the tag matches the cert. some shops who dont sell asian aro`s alot wont have a scanner but they are ment to, if they dont have a scanner then you run the risk of it not being the fish its ment to be.
colour and shine wont really show at this size so there isnt really alot to look for in shine and colour, some asian dont get good shine and colour till they get old. some reds dont get good till they are over 4 years old.

but above all, if you like the fish and are happy with it thats all that matters.

I thought that asian aros were banned in the US

I reckon it's a jardini that's been dyed slightly :D

It's hard to tell from that pic but it's eyes look more like a jardini than an Asian.

if you buy a rock of crack a bag of weed or a ASIAN AROWANA in the US and get caught you will go to jail and will be someones play thing for a few years its up to you :D

how much you getting that bad boy for???

4 inch is way to small to identify its breed. got to wait till its about 6 inches and above. unless this baby is a fast developer where you'd be able to see its gold shine on the edges of its scale.

other then that, if you're intrested in this fella it'd be a gamble. ;)

the easy way to see a aros shine is get down low below the fish and look up at it you will then see more shine and color

then look over you shoulder for the police :D
