To all the rack system people

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Glass tanks DO NOT hold the humidity as well as rack systems this is a FACT.

Glass tanks DO NOT hold heat as well as a plastic, glass has NO insulating factor. This is a FACT.

There is NO WAY to EFFECTIVELY lock a glass tank. The screen tops with "clips" WILL FAIL. The books/bricks on top WILL FAIL. Snakes have nothing better to do all day but try to escape so why make it easier for them???

I have used many a glass tank in past years so my opinons are based on user experiance not "word of mouth ect.". Im not saying that it is impossible to house a snake in a glass tank its just far more impracticle.

Gee whiz man. Are we keeping snakes or cooking a turkey?:D
Once a person starts citing what he believes to be "Facts", i'd say the discussion is over.

Oddly enought these are the same facts that just about every serious breeder/hobbyist believes. Im going to bow out of this discussion now.

One more thing before I go..........visit a couple of herp forums and gather some info on the subject, go through some herp magazine archives, check with local and non-local herp societies. Because in order for me to be wrong here all of these other resources need to be wrong as well. And thats the FACTS!;)

There's a lot of old-school type herpers out there that are stuck in their ways and don't see eye to eye with the "new guys." And thats totally ok...every hobby has issues like that...but they should know that their way of thinking is going to fade away with them and progess will take place, whether they choose to be a part of it or not.

wise words:)

See, the problem with this thread is that the original post set up a situation where all responses are either "For" rack systems or "Against" rack systems, thus every following post is judged as such. My "Defense" for aquariums is being judged as being "Against" rack systems. This simply is not true. If you read my previous posts, you should notice that I did not condemn rack systems in any way, I simply disagreed with another post that said, POINT BLANK, that fish tanks are not suitable for Blood Pythons for specific reasons he noted.
It's not my fault that a troll post grew in to multiple pages and any opinion that supports keeping snakes in a glass tank is deemed "Anti-rack system".

Then the insults come...
Old School. I like this one. Snakes have been on this planet for millions of years, yet there is suddenly a new and improved environment that crops up that keeps them "Happy and healthier" than the countless years people kept snakes as pets. Um, let me ask you something? If the end result is the same in either environment, how is one "Better"? I believe they call that "OPINION".

Then the challenges come....
I can maintain the same humidity levels and temp as any rack system in a regular old school fish tank. I've done it before, it's not rocket science.

Then the questions about my experience come...
My personal experience is deemed "Word of mouth, etc" whereas other's experience is judged as "Fact". Nice one Walls.

Then the "Facts" come...
GLASS TANKS DO NOT HOLD HEAT/HUMIDITY AS WELL AS RACK SYSTEMS DO". um, JUST CURIOUS... If the end result is the same in either environment (consistant temp and humidity), how is your fact relevent? The same goal is being acheived (Happy and healthy snake). How is one better than the other.

You will notice that I never argued against rack systems but I think it's absurd to take the position that factual info supports that they are somehow better. What makes them better is their ease of use and nice features which, as previously mentioned, has no bearing on the health of the snake.

You know, many of the principles of our hobby have been around a long time before any of us were even born. Bio filtration is bio filtration. Nobody here invented this concept. Nobody here can argue that the newest version of the Fluval filters water better than the old version. This is because the concept hasn't changed, the equipment did.

Now I know this is long and many have attention span problems which probably is a result of too much MTV but i'd like to leave you with this:
My foundation of knowledge stems from working with 2 old Jewish guys that most certainly were "Old school". The very things they taught me still apply today because the science hasn't changed. Maybe I am old school but the truth is, i'm 37 and will drink you under the table.
I've grown tired of this site's "Holier than though" attitude. It's a shame really because we share similar interests but frankly, i'm not interested in the "My way or highway" BS that leaks out into too many posts here.
With that, i'll leave you young folks to reinvent the wheel.

And after this comment you expect ANYONE on this board to care about your opinion??? You dare to make a comment about trolls but then throw your whole arguement out the window with this assinine statement??
Ive got news for you pal, I am 36 and have kept snakes in glass cages for over 15 years before having my eyes opened. I never said that a snake could not be kept succesfully in a glass cage, it can, but that doesnt mean there arent better ways to keep them.

Funny I feel like im caught in the 'undergravel filtration is bad for a tank' thread again........

hahaha. I think I may have spawned that can of worms.

I thought he was doing great in "agreeing to disagree" until he made that idiotic comment about fornicating with my sisters and drinking me under the table. I got news for you buddy...the bum who lives in my ally could probably drink you under the table and look how far that got him.

We appreciate that post, it should serve as a great character reference for future discussions.
