well thats what i was wandering. then its simply not worth my time. it takes to much time and money. food, heater expense on heat bill etc. to raise them to 3 inches to make 25.00 on 40 fish thats why i would try to move a large amount at a small size. but yes they will make the 2 day trip with no problem i use to do it with my jewels. so i will either seperate or throw them in with my cariba. and keep trying to x breed my rosequeen and texas were the money would be. at least i know

currently alot of threads out here on breeding for income (substantial or not), and to sum them all up- don't do it, very little profit to be made if any, not worth the time or investment.

dont agree i use to raise angelfish and in 3 mos they were quarter size and lfs would take 50-75 at a time about every 10-14 days. turnover was fast. they gave me 1.50 each and that pays for the entire hobby.

I think you can make money breeding, you just have to breed the right stuff. Discus, flowerhorns, and peacocks (bass and africans). If you have high quality specimens, and I mean high quality, and breed them, you are guaranteed to make money. I mean Aquarama quality high quality. Sure it takes a little initial investment, but I have seen some of my flowerhorns sell for over $200 at an LFS nearby that cost 20 dollars a year ago. I mean yeah the cost of food is about 40-50 dollars, but still its a drastic increase.

Also stingrays seem to be pretty lucrative.

Its all about supply and demand. If you can bring a product to where nobody gets them and sell it then you will make money.

But you had a buyer. That's not the case here. I agree, not good for profit- unless you sell locally, and then as also said, they need to be much larger than you're talking.

I used to breed Tropheus Moorii and it was definitely worth it. I used to pull in 8-12 bucks for a 1.5" fish. Of course they turned around and sold them for 25-30. But it paid for the hobby back then.

that's good to hear, but there aren't so many succes stories, most come from people breeding high quality, and rare fish- meaning they put money into it to start, and it doesn't always pay out. and jaguars are a fish that you will not make a good amount of money on being that they are sold regularly in almost every retail fish store. and are very easy to breed. find something hard to find, that can be charged for a good buck a peice. and the hobby paying for itself in 10-14 days is all dependent on the person and how deep they are into the hobby. best of luck though.

yes i did have a buyer and thats what i was figuring out here today if i would have buyers thats why i did a poll. i would need like 10 buyers if i wanted to raise them a month then move them. i know 2 day is ok on the fish but i would even experiment and try ground so cost would be dirt cheap.
but the way it looks like im going to stick with hybrids.

looks to me like you already should have made $240, so how many of those people do you think are acually going to pay?
