The research being looking into how a canister physically works. I have run every canister listed above, and can say that eheims perform better, as they always have performed better than any other canister. Basic look at a rena filstar, and you will see there is room for bypass, which will, and does happen. Look at the design on a classic eheim, there is no way for bypass of the media at all. Right there that will put the eheim above the filstar.

This is news to me, and I have studied my XP3s very carefully. What is the source of the bypass, in your opinion?

dodge4x4man68 is my brother...granted he doesnt have much tact when in discussions but just to set the record straight he owns 4 eheims and 3 fluvals...the eheims are not being used at this time and are stored for backups...eheim is over-rated and over priced...I myself have 3 set ups and use renas on them...my brother offered to give me 2 of his 2028 eheims but I said no...but get this now they banned my brother for contradicting one of the mods here...is this not what a forum is for? contrasting opinions? granted the way he went about it may have been wrong but he did nothing to be banned from this site...and for the mod who banned him, cant you take criticism? you arent the einstein of the fish keeping world but you probably think you are huh? I stand behind what my brother said, he is no beginner in this field and could probably teach a few of the mods here a thing or 2.

I myself have 5 rena xp3s all packed with media fashioned after the 2026/28 and 2217. I don't see the poteintal for bypass as long as assembled properly(these are designed much like the 2026/28s). The next cansister I will buy though will be the 2217 because they are the best value in canisters at this time.

granted he doesnt have much tact when in discussions....True

but just to set the record straight he owns 4 eheims and 3 fluvals...unlikely

the eheims are not being used at this time and are stored for backups...eheim is over-rated and over priced...yet you suppossedly own 3 of them:screwy:

I myself have 3 set ups and use renas on them...my brother offered to give me 2 of his 2028 eheims but I said no...:liar: passing up free filters to buy other filters, not likely

but get this now they banned my brother for contradicting one of the mods here...dought it was just for contradicting the mods

is this not what a forum is for? contrasting opinions? yes it is, but just posting random contradictions with no proof or info is useless

granted the way he went about it may have been wrong but he did nothing to be banned from this site...and for the mod who banned him, cant you take criticism? you arent the einstein of the fish keeping world but you probably think you are huh? I stand behind what my brother said, he is no beginner in this field and could probably teach a few of the mods here a thing or 2. not worth commenting on

And why bump after only a minute :screwy:

Pics will prove nothing, as I notice you are using the same pic for an avatar as dodge4x4man68 used.

McLovin!

Why are you worried about the output? It's the volume that matters IMO.

So the difference between mechanical and bio filtration confuses me. I understand the principle obviously, one is great for filter out the crap in the water (mechanical) and the bio will remove toxins and holds the good bacteria that the tanks needs.

So this being said, I have a Fluval 304, which would this be considered? It is running on a 55g right now, and from all I can tell it works great. Also, is it considered not enough to have 1 do it all filter? I see so many people running multiple filters on tanks, again I understand the idea, more filter = more filtration, more filtration = better water quality. But, is this necessary?

On the same topic, is there a preferred media layout in something like a 304. Currently I am running pre-filter in the bottom basket, 1 carbon bag and 1 clearmax bag bag in the middle basket (since it has two slots) and bio max in the top basket. Is this a good setup, would something else work better?

Along the same lines, I have heard that to much carbon in the filter is not good, so because the baskets are so tall I was considering adding 2 bags of each in the middle basket, they would fit with room to spare, but would this be too much media in the filter?

Sorry so many questions...
