To Color Festae or Not to Color Festae...

all depends on what the indivdual person likes. i like my female festae as she is no yellow all bright red with deep barring. i like the male festae to not show the bars and to be brightly colored like the male you have posted.

Just curious has anyone posted pics of the Ecuadoran festae and Columbian festae to be ale to tell the differance ?? I own 2 festae, one is a def female from rapps, and the other is male from a different importer his name just escapes me.

So tell me guys, are the columbian festae You are referring to actually from Peru? It's my understanding they only come from Equador & Peru, Is this correct?

It doesn't hurt my credibility when the male in my avatar displayed barring all the time. Just because you have only seen examples that don't, doesn't make what I'm saying any less credible.

It does make it less credible because your male showing bars all the time as you say is not the norm with male festaes.

You make it sound like there is a different variant in male festaes (some showing bars, some not showing bars) which is not the case, period.

by the looks of my festae can you tell me where it is most likely from. i got her from rapps as a f1 quite awile back. maybe you might know were rapps gets his because im not sure were the parent were collected.

The ones he had this time last year were Ecuadorian, I think.
I have to say this:
I find it a bit difficult to come to terms with all this talk of Ecuadorian vs. Columbian festae. I don't think that customs or border patrol are what's preventing the fish from traveling from one country to the other. Aren't the two countries separated by a river and intersected by the Andes? Wouldn't more specific information be required before we can differential variants?

I'll be the first person to say that I don't know what's fact or fiction in regards to the differences between Ecuadorian and Columbian festae.

I do however notice that from pictures that I have seen of different female festae over the years, some females seem more red all over versus some females having a lot more yellow or mango coloring.

Experts, please chime in...

More information would deffinately be need about where the colombian "festae" are coming from indeed. If they are coming from the southwest corner of Colombia, then they could possibly be festae. If they are coming from say the Rio San Juan, than the Andes are deffinately in the way ... the only way for them to have gotten there is swim into the pacific ocean, through the Panama Canal, and then up the river. That being the case, the colombian "festae" would be a differant species all together.
