I think he meant the oscars will eat the Dats, when they get outgrown, Dats are prone to SLOW GROWING, oscars grow like a weed.

Im just wondering why you want Dats with oscars anyways? Why not get something rarer, for your rare dats? Small Ray, will last in a 135 for a good year.

I wanted Oscars just because they're big, intelligent fish that'll eat feeders. I'm open to other suggestions though - unfortunately I don't think we can get stingrays here in New Zealand.

Here's a picture of one of the dats - I used a flash to get a picture while it was in a cave...heh.

What's really weird about this guy is that sometimes he's absolutely black except for a tan line down the top of his body, and sometimes he looks like this - what's with that?

Also, what sort of dat is he?

Thats because he is just unstable sometimes, it looks like an indo to me...

Are dats hard to find in New Zealand?

Reasonably so. A shipment just came in though it would seem, because another pet shop in my area has two of them as well.

lol, it's alright I guess, maybe not as nice as you seem to think. It's just like anywhere else, mostly.

Update on my dats: One of them is settling down nicely, and he's even eating mosquito larvae now too (Yay for free food!) but the other stays totally black most of the time and hangs out between the filter intake and the back of the tank. He seems to get bullied a bit by the other. I was going to get rid of him but it's been suggested that if I get a third one they'd all get along alright - what do you guys recommend?

Get as many as you can; Seriously... And they will be an awesome display.

Damn i figured New zealand/Tasmania/Australia would be out of this world.
