Thanks for the response.....

My main concern is the "relationship" between the two...the female is not shy or timid, but is forced to stay in the corner by the male. I'm not sure how helpful dithers would be :(

maybe u could put a divider with a hole in it so just the female can get through to get away from the male.

I would go the dither route. Choose a large schooler that you like and get a good amount of them.

im a fan of sd's as well. i had some tinfoil barbs for awhile, but i noticed that it was impossible to get food to all of my other fish. tinfoil barbs just seem to have an endless stomach and will eat anything.
Thanks....I was worried that tinfoil barbs may get too big...so SD it is if I go the dither route.

I used severums in my tank. it calmed everything down in terms of aggression but im not sure if u want to put that load into ur tank. also, mine were not for the purpose of pairing. just to help with the aggression. it worked for me but i dont know if its a great option because u would have to spend a little more money and would be pissed if it doesnt help haha.
I have a few but don't want to risk them...had a big and ugly one that would have be perfect, but I gave him away :(. Also the tank is at pH8....

No divider.....;)

I would try some sort of silver dollars if anything. My concern is that in a 4ft tank the female really has no way to get away from the male if he wants to bother her. Not really enough length for her to get out of his sight. A group of 6 silver dollars might keep him distracted but it also might not do anything and decent sized silver dollars are not real cheap. If dithers don't work I'm afraid a divider or 6ft tank will be needed. Hopefully some dithers will work though.

That's exactly the problem....4x2 is good for a pair only if they get along. It's not too bad yet - no damage or anything, but it's really annoying :irked:

I understand. Hopefully they will straighten up for you. They are great looking fish. I personally have never had any luck trying to keep any large aggressive CA/SA pairs in a 4ft tank without a divider. I see people on here that seem to make it work though, so maybe you will get lucky.

Only the success stories made it here I guess :(
