To go along with the rising trend... MORE TURTLE QUESTIONS!

So, I've got an RES right now and I'd really like to get another.
Most likely a Pastel, possibly a "Ghost" RES.
The enclosure i have now is 4' long x 22'' wide and 14'' deep.
Would this be large enough for two RES?
If not, I've been planning to get a Waterland Tub made specifically for water turtles.
It's dimensions are [SIZE=-1]55"L x 25"W x 12"H With 1'' bulkhead.

I think it would be a tight fit for two RES. It doesn't really supply that much swimming room for an animal the size of a female RES. I could be wrong, it happens.

That is ok for two young ones or one small to medium Res male. For a big male as well for females you need something larger. I recomend that you get a copple of small ones(about 1 year old) make them grow in your tank a few inches and then put them in the water land tub. Thouse are great to put outside. However if you intend to have albinos, dont keep them in full sun ligth. I here must confess that I find the caramel pink and the pastel morphs particulary atractivesBut they are almost impossible to get here

I got him from a petco that kept him in a 55 gallon tank along with about 5 other res, male and female. He is only 8'' and has been that size since I got him in July '07.
I feed him a balanced diet, turtle pellets, greens, occasional live fish like whitecloud minnows and rosy reds. I have UVB light for him, and I take him outside every once in a while so he can get direct sunshine and walk around in the grass outside.

What about just letting him stay in the enclosure he is in now, and growing out the pastel/albino slider in the waterland tub?

If they are of the same size there´s the possibility of them making friends whit one another. Just remenbar that males often are territorial and dont mix well. The ideal combinacion for comunities is several females mix togeter. And for second best a male whit a few females but sometimes males and females find a way to get into trobble and agression. On those times males are the ones that often get bitten because female RES are bigger and stronger than males. Thats why I keep my females togeter on a comunity habitat and males separatly in smaller individual containers. I use this sistem for all my maps, sliders and cooters. If I want babys all I have to do is put one or more males in the girls enclosure for a few days on a close whach for signs of agression. If you are gonna keep them togeter you must pay a lot of atencion in the first few days to monitor any signs of incompabilities. If you are going to keep them separatly I recomend that you put your old slider outside on the waterland and rear the young one inside on your old slider´s tank. If shes stunted than the sun esposure at her will and living outside its one of the healtiest things you can do for her

Oh and if she is stunted keep her on a close look on the fall. If she´s heavy and otherwise healty she can hibernate outside or inside. If not you must overwinter her in your tank at normal temps

Well, this summer I might put the "possibly stunted" RES in a Kiddie pool out on my deck.
Would she be able to live out there all year round? It gets pretty dang cold here a times, but I know a few people in my state that keep turtles out all year round, I just dont feel comfortable doing so.

If I do get another turtle, I will most likely try and keep it with my other RES and if it doesnt work I will put one of them into a different enclosure.

To be honest, I'venever been a fan of waterland tubs, for water turtles.
They're great if you have a huge budget, but sliders don't really use land more than about 8'' from the water.
Personally, i'd go with an XXL kiddie pool...

I just thought I'd give it a try.
Anyone else have any negatives abut waterland tubs, I'd like to hear them.
