behind my iMac.... Southampton UK.
Thoughts from keepers with experience with both please... pros and cons? xb com quite well respectively we all know that, reds its a bit less common.. but i want a nice solo Aro setup for my study... I wouldnt mind a suttle spoon head but no horrible almost deformed reds yuck! ive seen looks of nice reds tho. T1's chilli has lush shape tho im not found of the color personally id like a more dark red sp. Koji's was freaking goregous tho i went to find his channel on youtube and no vids... what has happend to koji? Between him and T1 ive learnt so much...

this will be a complete new project for me. no existing stock used! Now i have a RO running im thinking aro ray for starters and then fill in the gaps... remember i am in the uk so unless a few people i know want to offer me one not likely to find a huge dat on the market here...

so thoughts on reds over golds? tank mates? heck even ray suggestions... p14 pup would be nice if i could find one....

there is a hint there somewhere... ;)

If I were in the UK and I would get a trio of black diamonds and a nice red arowana. P14's are overrated IMO. I like larger spotting. What size tank are you working with??

have space for a 8x2x3 but probs stick a 6x2x3 as im not planing on breeding rays or even stocking multiples... if i go for a cat i probs wont do a ray.. I could go tig but love jur's so may take the cheap option still...

seeing that you have a gold variant already i would suggest red. i have both variants from Kaiju Arowana (RockyGoldy). At the moment, considering getting VIP gold (yummy saw in LFS over the weekend but no tank over in my new place yet). I have seen the LFS's VIP red it is pretty cool color even under white lighting

From what i gather the SR is a slower developer than goldies. I have never seen in person a SR which is actually red (like apple or communist flag - red), only deep deep deep orange. Mine is sun tanning now, so development is very rapid, but it is not yet (remains to be seen if he will go red).

the big pro for the red is their body shape and fin size. I agree a slight spoon head is very pretty not the king type though. I did not succeed to mix other aros with it only the bottom dweller like ray and bichir. I have seen plenty of comm red tanks on the web.

so check out VIP site since they seem to specialize(?) in red. another thing to consider is violet fusion - though it is said to be just a marketing gimmick (hmm which farm dont remember), they do look quite impressive.

Good luck

PS: this weekend going to check out a LFS which carry Elkindo, hengki, Mitra (supposedly Indonesian strains ... supposedly also very good SRs)

Indos seem to come into country here more than Malaysians in fact with out checking certs im sure ive got aro from at least two of the indo farms you have listed! ;) very nice fish too!

My main problem with going red is its going to to be a solo showpiece so its got to be perfect to what i think a ed should be... finding one is going to be a freaking joke in the UK...

The fact that you have the option of asking this question saddens me.. ): I would get both if they were legal in the states.. XB's will always look good. SR's take lots of time and dedication to make them bloom.

I hear ya ^^ on a solo SR piece.

r u planning to grow out or r u getting an adult one? if you are planning to grow out ... you gonna have a not so stunner SR for quite some time unfortunately (at any rate longer than XB). If you get an adult that is something else (tho imo not as rewarding ... more expensive too).

PS: what's "ed"?

...be a solo showpiece so its got to be perfect to what i think a RED should be... my bad, pure typo!

I will probs grow it out but i wont buy a fish until i find a farm that produce a bloodline im really happy with... i would take a fish under 14" to continue to grow out but no i would not want a adult fish....

and just to clear this up. I wouldn't solo a gold aro... might do a plat SA tho... hmm...
