To salt or not to salt

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Howdy,

HERE is a thread in which others have weighed in, including myself. I have since adjusted my salt use because I started to keep other species. Today, I use most salt for my molly tank, some for my dat, and none for my wolf.

And no, salt does not hurt most plant species when administered within reason (at least 2 tablespoons/10 gal).

Bottom line:
Know what your fish (species) need
Know your tap water chemistry
Be smart about it

Tonic - like cough medicine, you don't take it unless you need it. (and I don't want to hear from any niquil junkies ;)).

If regular W/C's are done it's not necessary :D.

Does your marble cat have scales? :grinno:

No it does not have scales. There does not seem to be any detriment to them. But i have not seen them since i bought them so i will let you know when i go back and have a look. From what i hear on the phone, the cats are eating like crazy so i suppose no side effects

PS: perhaps it is low dossage? 1 table spoon for 10 gallons (approx)

I am still curious about the prevention of nitrite/nitrate poisoning? Is that a treatment after the fish is poisoned or to prevent poisoning? If it is preventative, then it seems like a good idea to have a buffer? Am i missing something here?

Thanks for the thread.... though it did not really conclude anything. Just a clarification, aquarium salt is not pure NaCl? I use NaCl. I have never seen aquarium salt (unless that is sea aquarium salt). Please confirm?
