I forgot to mention that I have really gotten into planted tanks. I have a couple high tech setups, and all the rest of my tanks are low tech and have at least a few plants in them. I like to keep my tanks very natural looking as well, but I haven't set up a true biotope yet (I would like to in the future). I do like keeping fish of the same region together though. Right now I am really enjoying learning about various CA/SA cichlids and a group that I am dying to try is Geos. One thing that I find slightly limiting is my hard water with a high pH, so I'm sure one of these days I'll invest in an RO unit.
Sarah, I did the same thing as you with Africans when I first started keeping fish. I just thought the colors were so pretty and I wasn't very interested in the behaviors and interactions between fish like I am now.
