To sump or not to sump...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My sumps are so much easier to work with and clean than my FX5's and Eheims.

Here are a few shots of my 350g with an fx5 plumbed into bulkheads on the side of the tank. The vinyl tubing is 1" diameter, the bulkheads are 1 1/2" with 1" grate and jet nozzle. Hopefully this gives you and idea for your set up.

I clean my eheim once a month, but that is mainly because I like to see all the crap its trapped. A filter so nice that cleaning is fun.

As far as sumping goes though, I think that if you can sump, you always should. Gives lots of room for bio filtration in FW, and also good for O2 - which you can never have too much of with monster fish. Throw an FX5 on there as well, and get some spray bar action or something. :D

I would like to know if anyone has succeded in using an FX5 hooked up to the overflows on an AGA tank as an alternative to a sump...?

Yea... I don't know why I am trying to fight it... I will send the 2 Emps back and get a pump for the sump.
