Mine is right above the filter. My 2 450's are side by side with the filter in the middle. the nursery tank is between the 2 450's and just has a small pump going in one side and the drain down to the filter on the other side.
I did do this for awhile but I got tired of it being in the walkway, was to put the nursery tank on a wheeled cart. when I had pups, I'd drop the pump with clear flex pipe in the sump leading to the tank and then flex pipe back into the sump. When the babies were sold, I wheeled the tank into my garage and was done with it.
Hope that gives you some ideas.

I know of many breeders who use the same water seperate tank and I also know breeders who place there ray pups right into completely seperate filtered tanks and dont even acclimate the pups and both ways seem to work. I do both ways and I am trying to figure what way is better for the pups and will have a better survival rate.

I've done very well with keeping them in the same system, different tank. I reintroduce pups back in with the females after a few months.

you know i have tested pH, hardness, and alkalinity on all my tanks and there is not any fluctuation so i figured that it may not be much of a problem. but i have not had any rays mate or have pups. so i am Turing to gear toward that with a prepared system.

hey Big Dave i like your portable nursery idea i bet it works well

thanks for everyones experience i will work on pics tonight

when the garage gets redone this spring the ray pond will be tied into another pond for pups.... if you can i would keep them in the same water basically..

Just keep them in the same water. When the pups are young. You want to do everything you can NOT to stress them out. I keep lights out for at least the first 24hours. And my pups will eat pellets and shrimp with in 3-4 days. So Just do what works great and thats keeping them in the same water. I have your same setup with the rubber maid. I use a 40 breeder with a standard overflow with a pump in the pond pumping up to the tank. I know alot of people have lost pups from swapping to another system. I lost my first pup years ago doing that.

well i finaly got around to finishing up the system i don't really like it ,but it does serve a perpose and works so i will leave it for know. what do you think?
