To those who have large pirahna

Hey .. New to the site . I have 6 p in a 90 gallon tank . The best idea is after you do a complete tank clean i'd suggest just using your fish net or whatetver you have long and handy and just push it along your gravel once a day after a good feeding. this shoudl make your cleaning much much easier the next time

You could try my trick. I took an old Magnum filter and made it a power cleaner. I attached a hose fitting on a piece of Tygon tubing and put it on the input side of the Magnum. On the output side I put a piece of Tygon that I run back into the tank. I have a Python with a 30" gravel tube that I screw onto the hose fitting and use that to power clean the tank without ever putting my hands in the water. Keeps the bottom of the tank pristine and never have to even think about getting bit.

i just use my python as i would normally. the piranhas never even tried to nip me, they run away from my hand.

Same song. I just watch the P (three 8 inchers) while I am in there. Once in a while they get a little to near my hand and I just chase them away.

exactly what i did back when i was interested in p's.

I no longer have any p's, but when I did I used the guppy method.
With my first pirahna 13 years ago I used to net it out and place it in a bucket. Wrecked too many nets and had a couple flopping on the floor experiences. Finally I had a divine moment and thought up the divider idea.
Yeah I would put my hand in the tank to grab or re-arrange things quickly, watching intently of course. And they always huddled in a corner or hid. I just figure why tempt fate. Your flesh is in the tank a lot longer while cleaning. One ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!

Ive never been bitten, but I've had some close calls...I moved a rock while cleaning and one zoomed out and almost got my middle finger. After that I bought a tank divider on the advice of a friend. Now cleaning is longer, but safer

I use tongs and a long vac tube to clean and re arrange my tanks. I have a 10 inch rhom and I would never stick my hand in there, your talking about losing a finger if you mess up.

They make every tool that you need to clean your tank long enough to clean it without having to stick your hands in the tank.

I would always use a really large net to block off a majority of the tank with one hand and siphon with the other hand. Then always be alert to drop everything and pull hands out.
