Toadfish Spawned???

Spotted this today in the toadfish tank. Anybody any experience of this? Any advice? The eggs, if that is what they are, are about the size of a small pea. There are no other fish in the tank. The reason I spotted this is that the ornaments appeared to have a slime all over them, could this be the males sperm??

The females ovipositor?? it is huge. Although that wouldn't be too surprising seeing the size of the eggs.

Any advice much appreciated, I've not heard of this happening before.

They do look like eggs. I have no clue never kept toadfish but if they are....good for you best of luck with them

They certainly do look like eggs. You need to take documentation of the water parameters of the water RIGHT NOW! pH, KH, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, temperature, amount of flow, lighting everything! That way later you can replicate the parameters if they did breed.

Nice!! I thought you were talkin about frog fish, which make the planktonic egg raft thingyer!! Very kewl! Hope they are fertile and hatch for yaz! And hope you can raise them! WICKED!

Are you talking about Batrachus trispinosus? If so, thesee brackish (sold as FW) fish are egg scatterers with the male taking up the job of guarding the clutch. The females have nothing to do with the spawn once they've laid their eggs. There have been several reports of aquarium spawnings but, no reports of the eggs hatching.
In the wild, the fry hatch large enough to take live brine shrimp naupli. Having a batch ready to go might be a good step if you're fortunate enough to be able to report the 1st hatching.

Oddball, they are grunting toadfish (Allenbatrachus grunniens). They have been in fresh for over a year, no idea what they were in before I got them.

That's a much larger-growing species that can hit 16 inches. These, too, are brackish to marine. I haven't heard of any aquarium spawnings of this species.
But, at least I get to pull out the old "A. grunnien yawning" pic again:

Try pulling out the hook from one of their mouths. For some reason they love trying to swallow hooks. And they don't even try to help you out when you go to unhook them. Plus you can feel them croaking. It's kinda gross cuz it feels like they're trying to regurgitate it. lol
