In the evenings I often see a toad, sometimes more than one, in my front and/or back yard. I tried to catch one today and it went into a hole under my walkway (the sidewalk leading to my front door). I'm wondering if the toads dug the hole or if it was already there and are they doing damage? If so, I'm thinking of getting rid of them. If not, I don't mind them a bit as I've always liked frogs and toads. I just don't want them being destructive by digging holes. Should I exterminate these guys or let them be?

I say let them be. I have never heard of toads causing a pest problem or damage to property!

I haven't either. What worried me though is that the hole goes all the way to the other side of the side walk. I was thinking if they can burrow under the side walk, will they burrow beneath my foundation. I guess that probably sounds stupid but like my grandma always says, better safe than sorry. I don't want tunnels all under my sidewalk either, maybe one day it will collapse lol. Maybe I'm just being paranoid.

From what I have read, toads dont really dig, they use holes that other things have already dug, moles, chipmuncks for example. So I wouldnt worry about the toads causing the damage they are most likely just using holes/tunnels that were already there!

lol ok ok, I get it. I'm actually glad to hear it. If they're not hurting anything, I'm happy to have the little fellows around. Thanks.

You could always fill in the hole.

toads will be toads let them be atleast they keep the bugs down
