Sorry to bring up this relatively old thread again, but are these the undescribed fish from La Ceiba? If not, what was the result of the DNA testing of those fish? I am thinking of purchasing some of these fish from Ken Davis, but I would rather not if they are hybrids.

Well, Rusty Wessel ID's the fish as being a Loiselli. Ken is insisting that it's a new species. I have a tank full of the grow outs from the first pair that we brought back. I can tell you that they are not Managuense...and the fry look more like Loiselli. You've seen the adults. Awesome specimen. If it's any consolation, you should know how I feel about hybridized fish...if not, ask around...and I have a tank full of these little monsters.

I say get 'em.

The photos I've seen of the wild-caught adults are absolutely stunning, but I was hesitant to purchase some in case they turned out to be hybrid garbage. I think I'll get a few Honduran managuense as well as the La Ceiba fish and see how they turn out.

I have to agree with Ken as far as the La Ceiba fish being a new species. They are far too different from loisellei in physical appearance for me to believe that they are the same species. Of course, my extent of knowledge on the subject comes from a ninth grade biology class.

I think you are one up on Ken.

Wouldn't go as far as to say there a new speices the female has a ton of yellow in her which looks awesome but i think its just relative to the location she was collected from possible its a hybrid but i don't think so from those pics
