The managuense "breeding factory" is back on line. Here's momma over the fry.

Fanning the eggs must be hard work.....big yawn. You can see the eggs on the slate. The male is all about protecting the territory.

In fact, they both are:

The fry are hatched...dad takes a big yawn

Once the fry are hatched the parents moved them to a flat area between rock and pot...keeping an ever watchful eye. I shot this from below the tank.

Close up of the fry. You can judge size by comparing the fry to the aquarium gravel. Here the fry are one day old.

The fry, while swimming, are still concentrated in one small area between rock and pot. I lit the fry area with a flash from below. You can see the marks from where the eggs were attached.

that is great, you really have some nice fish and a great camera. do you mind telling what it is

Jeeze MO! You captured the entire birthing scenario! So cool! I like how mom was looking down at you when you snapped a pic of the fry under the tank! She was having NONE of you! LOL! Great pix!!

Mo I would love to buy a batch of fry from you, I'm up to F2 generation and mine are getting inbred and I'd like to out cross to yours. If you could bring me 30-40 small ones to the convention I'd appreciate it. Ken

Ken,

Right now all I have (and that I'm bringing) is one four inch lunker and four or five two inch fish...and they've been sold. The big guy ate all of his siblings. These new fry won't be ready for a month. But not a problem. I can do that.

I like the way they're lit from below the tank. Great idea.

Mail me some when they are ready, I'd had the same problem with the La Ceiba fish, one male grows fast, eats syblings and grows even faster. Ken
