Today in the Fishroom~ 11/01/12 Toxotes jaculatrix "The Archer"

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That was an awesome tour. Rarely do you ever see ponds full of Arapaima, Pacu or Red Tail Cats. LOL

I did get some photos of the Archer fish shooting down the black worms. No action shots unfortunately. If I as to own this fish, you KNOW that would be the reason. LOL

I think some of the other shots on your FB page are better than the ones above....really easy fish to photo.

Where is this?

are these commonly retailed anywhere? if they can be kept in a 55 it would be worth selling my current stock for them.

Archers are actually fairly common in LFS's. If you go on the segrest website you can look up an LFS that orders from us in your area and request them. They're not even expensive. Totally underappreciated IMO.

How do I sign up????? This is perfect and I live really close to it!

I think every once in a while they give tours, not sure when though. For anyone else interested in that lab it's also home base for the Rising Tide Conservation Initiative (http://risingtideconservation.blogspot.com/), a group doing some pioneering work on marine fish breeding. Really awesome stuff for anyone into marines or aquaculture.

I had some archers when I was a teenager, no idea which type- too long ago-, they automatically spit at any bugs I placed above water in the tank. very fun. they have good aim.
