Male and female. You can see the dark blotch in the female's dorsal fin. When they confront each other they will bleach from shades of blue/yellow to white within seconds. Very cool to watch.

And the female on the war path. You can see her operculum dropped...she just charged out of the breeding area to confront the "spare" female in the tank.

No. The Nikon SB-800 has TTL (through the lens) metering. I have the flash on a sync cord and connected to the camera. I have used it...actually two others...as a slave using the camera flash as the master. I don't like the results as much as I do with a single flash.
