Today In The Fishroom~7/11/10 Two Head Bangers

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That is a beautiful fish as in all his pics. Either your melon is small or he is beefier than the other pics led on.:D

Wow, I didn't realize how massive he was. What size tank is he in?

Probably the most creative pic I've ever seen. Well done. That zonatum is incredible in size. Great way to show off a great fish.

Lot's of responses...thanks

looks more like that guy just wants a kiss

Funny...for as much as he will do that open mouth thing he won't "smack" the glass like some of my Parachromis of Amphilophus. The Managuense always whacks the glass when my wife walks by..and not me. She said the fish hates her.

super looking fish what size is it?

I'm terrible on estimating...but 14" maybe.

very nice pic !!!! I love how the red tips comlement his blue very nice!!

Under certain lighting conditions that red really pops. I set my camera up on a tripod with a five second timer. Normally I would use the camera to trigger three flash units. I had to play with the adjustment of the second flash so that I would be illuminated as well. ON the left side is another flash angled down toward the fish and also illuminates part of my body through that angle. The one main difference in this set up is that I had to increase the main camera flash output to 1/30th rather than 1/128th.

As stated above...and for the record...at LEAST 50 photos to get the right one. I have photos over my shoulder, from the left...the right...

this pic is awesome, you should go for pic of the month

I don't know that I have ever entered that contest her or on any other site. Maybe once or twice. I just get a kick out of posting them.

That's one big fat fish! How old is he?

I think he will be eight this August. I started out with seven and he was last man standing.

Haha that is a fantastic picture... a priceless expression on your face!

I got the idea because while I was filling another tank I was just leaning against the side of his tank and he kept giving me attitude. I figured, what the hell....I have 150 more gallons to fill...why not play.

Nope...I have a HUGE mellon. For the record I wear a size 8 hat...for those old enough to understand how big that is...LOL My wife looked at the picture and said, holy $hit, that fish is bigger than YOUR head. It's a running joke...note the "neandethal brow" on the right.

Anubisscott;4277848; said:
Gourgous picture, he is even larger then I thought. Definently a picture of the month. You ever going to put him out to Stud?

Full disclosure here, Scott. The camera was fairly close to the tank...close enough for me to reach out and trip the shutter. I think the wide angle and just the odd position of the camera exaggerates a bit. Of course I also have never seen him in comparison to the size of my head. You can tell by his "fish boobs" that he's chunky.

I moved him by himself into a 100 gallon tank.
