Today in the Fishroom ~ A. Siquia "Rio Tempisque"

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
These are great, pretty fish. I keep a pair and their offspring- it’s a 40b not a 180 but it’s low maintenance and has been running for over 2 yrs.
The male is my icon photo and some of the female offspring are extremely yellow

Beautiful Cons, I love them. Ya I bet that 180 is crazy busy. Any dithers or bottom feeders in it as well?

No. Just the Siquia

No. Same family. Different flavor.
So "convict cichlid" is more of a broad term that encompasses more than one species?

I always see "Nigrofasciatus" accompanied with convicts

When I saw "Siquia" I assumed this was a seperate species from convicts

The "Nigrofasciatus" is the common version most of us are used to.

Much like the Amphilophus family with Midas, Red Devils, Red side, Black Devils. The Amatitlania family has several sp. in it as well. Honduran Red Points, Sajica, Myrnae, Nigrofasciatus so forth.

Convict is a common name for small cichlid throughout CA, all closely related and can hybridize. There are convict species in just about every creek in CA. I have kept 3 species of convict, Cryptoheros sajica, nanoleutus and paramensis, and a hybrid of the first two. Additionally, and I have kept Austraheros species from Uraquey that are reported to be closely related to CA convict and can hybridize.
