I believe the fish in the oscar tank are stressed because the heater messed up and the tank went to at least 90 degress. I fixed that and lowered the water temp back to 80. Could that have killed off the bacteria? The 55gl temps dropped last night as of no heat and the heater stopped working for some reason. So I put a new heater in there. It was 74 this morning. Could this be the cause of stress. I will retest my tanks and post what I get.

What kit of test kit are you using? I wanna ask that because your numbers are bizare, especially for the fish you have. I have a hard time keeping any pleco tank under 10 nitrates without live plants

It you use test strips, those are inaccurate. If you have a liquid test kit make sure you are following the directions and shake those bottles :)

They are API liquid test kits. I don't use strips anymore.
I am going to do a 30-40% water change and get melefix daily, should that work?

I would do 30-40% water changes daily to get the numbers better and to prevent this from happening again. It is an overstocked tank, so ya gotta pay a price for that

The melefix should help, but you need to remove your carbon media (hopefully you have something else that holds bacteria such as bio balls or porous rocks)

Above all KEEP THE WATER CLEAN!!

I am going to do that in till the water is fine then continue the 30-40% 2 times a week. I should have the 300gl in about 2 weeks. Then when that is filtered I am emptying whats in my 100gl into that. The 2 cats in the 55, the Culver, Rope, Leporinus, and Pleco will be moved to the 100gl. Then my 1080gl should be built by the end of feb. So the oscars and such will be moved to that. The over stocking is not completely my fault. My dad is the one who gets fish without my knowing.
