Well today is the day I bring home my grey bamboo shark and get it in the tank. I had a few questions I was hoping to get answered on Reefcentral but nobody want's to bother posting up other than saying that my 6x2x2 tank is too small for it. Oh and I have an 8x2x2 tank not what they said I had. It's a 240 gallon tank with an extra 100 gallons under it for added filtration with with sump and refugium.

My question is the LFS that has the shark is saying to bring a large fish net (ie: salmon net). From everything I've read online it says specifically not to use a fish net as it can cause damage to the animal. What has everyone else used to transport the fish?

Next question is how long and what method do you use for acclimating the fish? It is currently about 2 feet (give or take a few inches). It appears to just be a traditional drip acclimation to the tank but want to get some extra input on this so I don't put any added stress to the animal.

I plan on taking a 60 gallon container with me to place the shark in the tub and cover it up so it will calm down for the 20 minute ride home.

You've pretty much got it right. 2 hour drip accumulation. Tank wise as always is the bigger the better.

I've always had my sharks important so I can't comment on using a net or not. I bring mine home in the large fish bags and poly boxes.

Thanks. I'm heading out right now and was worried I was going to screw something up. Pics to come soon.

Got it home and it's in the tank. Had to do all sorts of rock work modification to the tank so it could swim around. It's a bit bigger than I though it would look in the tank but I'm happy either way. I guess it's just because I have mostly small fish in the tank. I really hope this is a grey bamboo but it still has bands on it so I'm not sure. I've been told that they will darken up once it gets a bit bigger. Only time will tell I guess.

That's a Brown Banded Bamboo buddy. Their stripes disappear as they get older, but they stay a sort of light/dark brown colour. Grey Bamboo's are just a normal shark like grey from the start.

Do you know if it's male or female? Brown Banded's grow bigger than a Grey. Banded Bamboo's grow about 36-40". Whereas Greys top out at about 24"-30" ish.

Glad to see you got it home. Def a brown banded bamboo.
Sadly, as mentioned on the other site a tank only 2' wide is already too small for a 2' long shark like this.

For something this size, a good way to move them is by hand instead of net. When using a net, the rubber basket type are safest for the sharks.
There isn't a time for acclimation anyone can just list. It depends on how different the water is and the way the animal reacts to being in a smaller container. If the water parameters are close (pH, temp and salinity) then you can acclimate faster. If they are far apart, then you need to go slower. If the animal starts to crash or reacts poorly, move them straight into the best water possible.
