^^ its never too late to start people have different experiences growing up

as far as bowfin i'd go with spinner baits or crankbaits/rattle traps - definitely something with a good shine as far as the cranks. colors once again based off the baitfish in their environment, if you aren't confident with artificials just yet try to find a place where you can get baitfish or live crayfish to use for bait

no problem man - if the places you are fishing have lots of open water/rock formations id go with rattle traps/crankbaits and if there are a lot of weeds try with the spinnerbaits

no idea man i've never been further north than virginia haha, just be looking around the banks you'll be able to tell the types of major structure
