I went to a LFS a couple days ago, but didn't get anything. Today, I went back to pick up some Congo Tetras and I saw a fish that wasn't there last time, at least I didn't see it before. It had a price tag of $40, but was marked down (they always do that to make you think you're getting a good deal, lol, but this actually WAS a good deal). It was in a 20 long, so I had to get it. It's an 8" Texas. Can anyone tell me what kind and is it male? It was hiding in the corner of the tank at the store in w/ a 5" marbled goby and a feeder goldfish. I put it in my 210 and divided it off because I thought maybe they were trying to get rid of it because it's aggressive, but it's still kinda sulking and hasn't colored up yet. Didn't eat any of the pellets I threw in, either. Anyway, here it is. I will probably be selling it. I figured I would be able to give it a better home than it had there, at least until I found another home for it. .

I agree ;) ANd I would say female as at that size a male would be sporting a thicker body in my opinion.

Nice pickup. What are your plans? Show? Breed?

Can you get a picture after this fish settles down? A couple different color variations as they change? thanks!

Thanks, Adam.

You can also see what will probably turn out to be a caudal spot, which indicates female, right? I always seem to get the females, lol.

Honestly, I will probably sell it. That is the only tank it would work in, but most of the other fish are slow eaters, so I can't have too many cichlids in there. I knew it would be better off with me and I could find a better home for it that they probably would have been able to.

I will definitely take some pix when it settles in. I will probably take the divider out in a couple days if it isn't attacking it and the other fish through the divider. It seems very mellow, so it should get along with the other fish, but you never know once they get settled in how they're going to act.

Great looking Texas, it's a nice find.

that carpinte is all pearly

for some reason, I think I might actually like it and I don't know why. I never really wanted a Texas and even got rid of the 4"er I had that I got through a mislabel and didn't know what it was (got it small). I'll give it a couple days and see. If it's too aggressive or too aggressive of an eater, I will have to sell it, but if it's pretty mellow, I may just hang on to it. I'm anxious to see how it's going to look once it settles in. I'm going to give it some more room today and maybe take out the divider tomorrow.

It seems like the person that brought it in got rid of it because it was too big for their tank, not too aggressive, but we'll see how it behaves.

That's no carpintis, it's a cyano like stated above. :)

Sorry to be negative, but there's no such thing as a mellow texas or carpinte. It's a great looking cyano though, I'd definitely keep it...keep us posted.:)
