That's no carpintis, it's a cyano like stated above. :)

Sorry to be negative, but there's no such thing as a mellow texas or carpinte. It's a great looking cyano though, I'd definitely keep it...keep us posted.:)

I agree it looks like a Cyan but I have to disagree that there's no such thing as a mellow one. I once had an 8" Cyan so mellow it wouldn't even defend itself against a Firemouth half it's size.

Well, either way this one is mellow right now. There are always individuals that are different, though. We'll see. I haven't made it home yet to see how it's doing as I picked up a severum from "Angler" and am acclimating it right now in my mom's tank. As long as it isn't more aggressive than my jag, it will be fine.

It's starting to settle in and look better. It seems mellow every time I'm around it, but my sister said it seems to like to harass the other fish or something through the divider. It wouldn't even eat the tilapi filet piece I threw in with it, at least not when I was watching it. I'm going to clean the tank tomorrow and take the divider out and see how it goes.

I cleaned the tank tonight and removed the divider. The Tex took over as the dominant one, but hasn't fought with anyone or been what I would call "aggressive", at least from a Cichlid standpoint. Here are the best of the terrible pix I took. I don't have a light on the side it was on and it kept going behind the plants, so I had to use flash and didn't get many shots of it out in the open.

Dominant one? Who, the scaredy cat Cyan behind the driftwood?

Yeah he looks dominant alright. :screwy:

:ROFL::ROFL::ROFL:

Just kidding. He's looking good actually. Are you going to keep it or still going to find it a new home? Careful you'll get attached and won't be able to give him up.

LOL It's definitely not a glassbanger, just was pushing around the other fish a little. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it yet. If it doesn't end up being aggressive to the other fish and at feeding time, I may keep it, but I doubt that will happen once it gets settled in.

what a big softy, lol. looks like I will be keeping this one, at least for a little while. it's not even aggressive at feeding time at all like the othe SA/CA cichlids I have/had

Poor girl laid eggs today w/ no partner. Yesterday, she starting clearing a spot in the sand...I thought that might have been what she was up to. She still doesn't seem aggressive at all. My ornate was even right over there while she was clearing it out and she never bothered it much. The lap is still under the wood that she laid some of the eggs on.

Thanks, Adam.

You can also see what will probably turn out to be a caudal spot, which indicates female, right? I always seem to get the females, lol.

Honestly, I will probably sell it. That is the only tank it would work in, but most of the other fish are slow eaters, so I can't have too many cichlids in there. I knew it would be better off with me and I could find a better home for it that they probably would have been able to.

I will definitely take some pix when it settles in. I will probably take the divider out in a couple days if it isn't attacking it and the other fish through the divider. It seems very mellow, so it should get along with the other fish, but you never know once they get settled in how they're going to act.

Agreed.
