Tokay Gecko

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks for all of the help. But I have another question. I came home from work yesterday, and my gecko was on the ground. It is still breathing, but it hasn’t moved much. I figured that I would give him over night to see if he would go back up onto the walls, and he still hasn’t. What might be wrong, or should I be worried?

He still trys to attack me if i come close to him.

What are you using to regulate the temperature in the tank? Perhaps he's cold and the tank substrate is holding in the heat. The day temperature in the tank should be between 78-85 degrees F. A basking light with a temperature of 85-90 degrees is recommended even though your geckos probably won't bask. Night temperature can fall around room temperature to 77 degrees F.

i have a 150 watt red heating buld. I am getting heating pads for the back of my tank this weekend. It has been staying under the heating bulb.
I am getting a Under tank heater and putting that on the back of the tank. The other gecko is staying up on the top of the tank. The temp is around 70-80 F.

I misted the tank this morning, and the gecko move about and inch, to get out of the way of the water, but it moved really slow.

do they make their sound? doesn't it bug you at midnight while making those sound?

You know I had a pair for about 5 years in my bedroom and I only heard that sound on 2 occasions.

Coz when I was with my grandma's house they have this tokays around (wild)and they like make that sound at a specific time per day

the red infrared bulb is probably a good heat source at night. i remember reading that these guys are nocturnal so if you have a timer, you could have a uv bulb during the day and let it switch to the red night light on timer.
these geckos aren't really for handling either. like esox said, they do have the meanest bite out there.

The New Caledonian Giant Gecko (Rhacodactylus leachianus) is the largest and heaviest geckos species.

Now thats a lizard I'd love! Too much moneys though!
