Just a thought
One of the main factors in keeping these rheophillic cichlids is strong water flow.
In nature Tomocichla, Talamancaheros, and Chuco experience strong moving walls or water.
When not provided, all that excess enegy used to live within those currents is often converted to aggression.
I found when I first kept asfraci, a 500 gph pump did not really create enough flow along the length of a 6ft foot tank to temper that energy competition.

I later tried Tomcichla tuba, using a 1200 gph rate, and they did better, but as they matured even that was a bit wimpy.

Above right tuba with wrigglers after she offed the male
When I then tried Talamancaheros siebildi upping flow to 1500 gph worked better

And adding a wave maker on top of the 1500 ggph flow rate, in a Chuco intermedia tank

Still keeping rheophillic species in Panama, where I collect my own. (Haven´t hit the Rio Guaramo yet, that aon the other side of the country)
I fimd with the flow rate in the rivers where I find these cichlids ,2 wave makers on top of the 1500 gph recirculation pump rate, is barely enough to make a dent compared to where I net these fast flow riverine species..
