Well . Any luck yet MT? Thinking of heading out to LM today and casting some spoons in the mouth of trail creek.
nope nothing yet, had one hit on a down rod. Just watch the temps at the lake if you see cold water head out. Moarnings are always better.

Picked up a 22pound laker down here in Lake Erie. 100ft 90ftdown with a NK spoon.

well I caught a king today but not from the Pier I caught this one at the first dam they run into at the river the, berrien springs dam.

Nice Catch! We don't catch those much around here. Mainly steelhead, lakers, browns and the occasional pink salmon and coho. WHat did you catch him on?

Yes we still have 20 pounders. My first king that I ever caught was last year and that was an 18 pound hen. The river I fish is the St.joe I dont think we stock kings anymore but we stock the hell out of coho and steelhead. We have an amazing coho run last year. depending on the weather our runs start towards the end of August. Last year the last weekend of August I was catching kings in the river already. So that would mean that the had been in the river for at least a week so they should be starting.

I really dont mind the declining salmon population as now we have a booming smallmouth and walleye population. Not to mention the comeback of the two giant natives the lake sturgeon and the Lake trout. I think the Great lakes are changing for the better and I wouldnt be surprised if they cut all salmon stocking in the next 10-20 years. I think they will keep stocking steelhead and browns and I would love to see them start stocking another MI native that has disapeared from the area, the spotted musky.

The DNR still raises Kings at the Matawan Hatchery. They get the eggs and milk from the salmon at the manistee weir. I got the eggs for my salmon in the classroom project from the hatchery last fall.

Don't they die though? They say around here we stock steelhead because they live longer and don't die after spawning. We'll they don't die in the creek...they are all caught and leave in the trunk of people from pittsburgh.:irked: Same difference.
I'd love to catch a king never have.

yes, after they spawn they die
