Toni's Quiet place

Happy you are keeping the couples together.
I have two Senegals that are affectionate with each other. They intertwine their long bodies together in a graceful aquatic dance.

Also two large angels that glide together in unison choreography. Turns made at the same time. When the Senegals are dancing at the same time it's as if two couples on Dancing With the Stars are competing at the same time with totally different but complimentary dance styles.

I wouldn't be able to seperate them. Some people can believe all they want that animals and especially fish dont have emotions or could feel love. Maybe some are not wired that way but others like oscar I believe can.

My mate is my source of comfort in times of insecurity. He is my home. If some one were to seperate us, I could never see him again. I would be in all ways broken.

Some people think that I can't feel emotions or love because I'm autistic. They can take a flying poke at a rolling doughnut. Having said that, I do understand animals better than humans. Perhaps I think and react more like them.

But... when we first got a fish tank I thought that fish pretty much ate, swam and reproduced. Pretty but fairly mindless eye candy. Soothing to watch but not much else. Boy, did they ever teach me.

The more I observed them and their interactions with each other the more it became clear that they have a whole lot going on. One study on fish memory and intelligence found that even the humble goldfish remembers things that it's taught for 3 months. Cichlids, at least 5 years. I say "at least" because the study stopped at that point. :p

I've also watched an angelfish and a pearl gourami have an intense interspecies romance, seen my most hardcore psycho killer Red Texas cichlid Caligula lovingly present his Festae mate Hela with a plant he dug up for her as a courtship gift, and that pair of Oscars is so obviously in love that it would feel wrong to part them. Even schooling fish can form bonds. Zebra danios mate for life. If one partner dies the other will not choose another. Seahorses link tails and swim together as if holding hands and perform ritual greeting dances for each other every morning.

Snakes have more going on upstairs than most people realize too (I breed them). I won't say that they're like puppy dogs or even cichlids but they're more sensitive, aware and intelligent than they are given credit for. Some species such as king cobras, indigo snakes and Russian rat snakes are especially known for their surprising brainpower and ability to form an attachment to a specific human caretaker. It might not be love but it's a connection nonetheless.

So yeah, as inconvenient as it may be the red Oscar pair stays put.

Just beautiful!

Autistic people have all the same feelings as the rest of us, some just are not able to express those emotions. My best friend's son is autistic and an amazing young man. He has a hard time connecting with people (thurth be told so do I) but he is incredibly brilliant.

You are so very right. My autistic friend is quiet, and shy too. Until he gets to know you, then he is warm and friendly. He tells funny jokes. He likes math and counting. He works at Red Lobster deveining Prawns and can tell you exactly how many he did that night at work. (Hundreds of them.) So I know your friend's son must be very smart, like my friend. My friend is very focused and serious, but can be very funny when he is around people he knows and likes.

No doubt there. Toni is my favorite fish right now. She bit my mom yesterday lol. I told my mom "Don't hang your fingers over the side of that tank. That fish will take em off for you". My mom said "don't be stupid its just a fish". Sure enough Toni popped up and grabbed her. Scared the crap out of her. BEST PET EVER!
Now you just need to train her to attack the mutant hellbeast (cat) and your set

Oh that cat doesn't live here. I only keep it for my sister when she goes out of town. I will never have one of those mutant turds living here permanently.

Each to their own. I have a great cat that acts half human ,½ puppy. Bottle raised him. Very affectionate and human emotion responsive, likes to cuddle and sleep with me. They all have their own personalities, like dogs, birds, fish, most creatures, and --people.

Yeah but if you died at home he'd start eating you before you got cold....
I see it alot in my work
