Mine were wild pair from a club auction and did the same thing with in the month or so. The only things I could come up with were either hardness issues, iron bacteria or something. Most of what I have is from locals, but without an RO system it can and usually is tricky for me when acclimating wilds.
 
I do have an r/o deionizing system I use for all my tanks, fresh and salt. I add r/o right and buffer to my fill tanks before pumping to all tanks, so hardness and other issues I eliminated.
 
Seems to be the common story about WC altums. I talked to a bunch of people about them, never tried them. These popped up and I bought a box and could not be happier! Super easy to keep, are going to get huge based on their current size. Just really do not have the WAF (wife approval factor) to setup another tank....seems to think 2500g in the house (roughly) is enough....
