Last night I was in the fishroom tiding up tanks and what not. I noticed that a plant in the 180 was floating and out of place, so I got on my step stool, reached in the tank and re-buried the plant.

As I stepped down to look at the tank I realized how stupid that was.

I had NO IDEA where my ray was in the tank when I was fiddling with the plant! Turns out he was only a couple inches away, buried in the sand, his head next to where I was messing around with the plant!

I realize I've become much to comfortable messing around in my tanks, especially the 180.

Have you ever caught yourself doing something dumb around/in your ray tank? Or any other tank with a dangerous fish, for that matter, just because you've become so "used to" your tank?

I work at a store near hear and I reach into tanks all the time. A lot of times not thinking twice, but I know that can get dangerous no problems yet, with the exception of sticking a hand in a tank with a 2' MBU that bit my hand. Fortunitly no harm done THAT time.

I read a story about a guy that was doing the same thing with a plant and got stung by his motoro. He was burying the plant right next the the rays tail which was buried.

My ray is very unaggressive i dont care much. i doubt any ray would sting you if you didnt hurt it.

wow i'd hate to get stung by a ray:(

i did pretty much the same thing with a piece of driftwood my ray moved across the tank.

Dr sudz, what store do you work at and where? i live pretty close to youm well burlington anyways

nope... another reason i keep barebottom but when dealing with tanks with sand the ray is stirred out of the sand and watched.... rather not walk into the ER with a pack of papers saying i was stung by a freshwater stingray and this is what you do to a doctor.....

That's how I feel. In the Upper Peninsula of Michigan I don't think they see stingray wounds, they would probably think I was crazy! Of course in my small town area, I'd probably make the front page of the paper!
