I wouldn't be worried about the guy robbing you if you did it in a public place. I consider private party ads just to be a risk of no guarantee. Obviously, since you are meeting him somewhere, you won't be able to test if it works. For something like this...ehh..I think I'd rather pay the extra $100 to have a guarantee for a few days.

I definately wouldn't do any sort of paypal transaction for it. Cash in hand traded for the item in person is the only way I'd go.
WOW. Deal of the century. This guy finally got back to me. I had written him off days ago. He told me he had a FX5 for $100 new in the box, I said I would meet with cash. Right before I was about to leave to meet him he calls me and says he was confused and the filter he was thinking of was a Fluval 405. He said he did have a new Rena xP4 that he would let me have for $70 since he didn't have the FX5. I did some quick research and said I would go ahead and get the xP4. And IT WAS FOR REAL! I just got home a little bit ago from picking it up. He takes care of fish tanks in local restaurants and bars, and his uncle used to run the best LFS and gave him his supplier hookup when he went out of business (because he overpriced). He is going to call me when he gets FX5s back in stock, and, because he didn't have one this time, he's going to give me one for $50. He lives in the same town as me & he has the best deals I've found nationwide on ebay, Aquabid, Craigslist, etc. I feel like a kid at Christmas.
