Too hot in the summer?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
taiwan getting really hot and sticky for about about 6-7 months a year. none of my tanks have hoods some are in a draft and temps still sit at about 30 degrees for that time.doesn't seem to affect my fish too much. they are just very active, very hungry and so mess a lot. this just calls for an extra water change or two.

just my 2c.

will a fan really cool the water? Say the room becomes 95F. Will the fan make that much of a difference?[/quote]

Depends on the humidity of the room. High humidity low evaporation.

It was pretty hot in socal today. Outside temp was 90s and my garage temp( where i keep my fish tanks) was 95+. My fish tanks stayed between 80-83.

Some of my tanks got into the 90s during a heat wave last summer. No losses including a hillstream loach.I did use fans to move air othewise temps could have gone over 100.If the temps dont drop at night thats when you get into trouble

An idea that it might work? It's like a drip system.

Get one of those plastic 1 gallon milk containers with screw on cap, not cap on. Fill it with tank water, polk a tiny hole in the cap, close the container, and put it in the freezer overnight. The next day, when the water turned into ice, place it over your tank upside down, and let the melting ice drip back into the tank through the small hole throughout the entire day.
